DHA contributes to maintenance of normal brain function and normal vision, with the beneficial effect obtained from a daily intake of 250 mg of DHA. Concentrated oils give more EPA and DHA per capsule, so you may need fewer. Cod liver oil also contains vitamins A and D, so avoid doubling up with other products containing vitamin A, and pregnant women should not take cod liver oil or vitamin A supplements. Algae oil is the vegan source of EPA and DHA. Our omega-3 guide explains how to compare labels.
