Casein Protein

Casein and micellar casein protein, the slower-digesting dairy protein, in powders and blends.

Casein forms a gel in the stomach and is absorbed more gradually than whey, which is why it is traditionally taken before bed or between meals rather than straight after training. Micellar casein is the least processed form and is the thickest to mix — many people use it as a pudding rather than a drink, with less liquid. Calcium caseinate is processed further and mixes thinner. Compare protein per serving and check for lactose if that is a concern. If you want a faster protein around training, whey protein is the counterpart; blends of both sit in protein powders, and plant protein is the dairy-free route.
