Magnesium

Every magnesium product in the range, across capsules, powders, tablets, liquids and gummies, from single-ingredient magnesium through to combined formulas.

The form on the label is what separates one magnesium from another, and it changes both the price and the elemental magnesium you actually get. Magnesium is sold as glycinate (also listed as bisglycinate), citrate, malate, taurate, threonate and oxide, and a 500mg tablet of magnesium oxide does not contain 500mg of magnesium — the elemental figure is stated separately on the nutrition panel and is the only number worth comparing between brands. Chelated forms such as glycinate are generally gentler on the stomach and cost more per serving; oxide is the cheapest and the least concentrated per unit of elemental magnesium.

Format is the other decision. Capsules and tablets fix the dose and are the cheapest per serving; powders let you set your own amount and are usually flavoured for use as a drink; gummies are the easiest to keep up with but carry less per serving; and there are flakes and sprays intended for use on the skin or in a bath rather than to be taken, so check which a product is before ordering. Magnesium is also a component of ZMA-style combinations in sleep & relaxation and of most electrolyte blends in hydration & electrolytes, and many multivitamins already include it — so check for overlap before adding a single.
